Team Building Challenges Now and In The Future
There is no question the world will change as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic. We are all faced with new team building challenges now, but what about post-pandemic? The question will be this: how will we respond and adapt to this new reality, and what role will team building and corporate training play in it?
Challenges Building Remote Working Teams
There has been a trend over the last few years towards a much more remote workforce, and this will only be intensified after this pandemic has passed. Even before COVID-19, the increase in our remote workforce, as a result of team members working from home, has created many team building challenges regarding collaboration, communication, leadership, problem-solving, accountability and more.
At Summit, we have noticed the impact this has had on teams with increasing dysfunction, stress, impatience, silos and more. Now that virtually the entire workforce is working from home, we are predicting that not everyone will return to the office, and remote and virtual teams will increase in size and frequency more than ever before. Along with this increase in virtual teams will be an increase in the dysfunctions that hold teams back, reduce productivity, decrease engagement, stifle collaboration, produce ineffective leadership, and reduced communication.
Currently, all team meetings and conferences have been canceled, but at some point, this will recover. When it does, how you use this time will be vastly important.
How Meeting Face to Face Should Change
When you do have the opportunity to meet face-to-face you should use this time to focus on team building, team relationships, building trust, enhancing communication, and figuring out how to work effectively as a remote team. Don’t waste your time reviewing sales budgets and other similar topics that you can easily cover in conference call and video formats. When you do meet in person, you need to be deliberate and focus on people, culture, and leadership. These are the critical elements that will help you to make the most of your remote team environment.
How We Can Help
At Summit, we can help you plan your next team meeting to focus on what is important. Team building helps to strengthen team relations, build trust, communication, and collaboration. Engaging in a training workshop will help you refresh and develop those critical team skills necessary to make the most of team interactions. Once we recover from this pandemic, your team will need some inspiration and positive team influences, and bringing in a keynote speaker focused on team building and overcoming challenges will help them develop the necessary mindset for success in our new reality.
To help you during this challenging time when we are all working remotely, Summit has developed several team workshops that can be delivered via remote video format. Ask us what we can put together for your team to keep performance high during these current challenges!
