There’s been a lot of buzz over the past decade regarding corporate scavenger hunts.
If you run a quick Google search with the term corporate scavenger hunts, you’ll easily find hundreds of pages of results, with several dozen companies who all offer related programs. It’s not hard to imagine why – corporate scavenger hunts are one of the most efficient ways of providing a relationship-building opportunity for a diverse array of groups. It’s just an easy crowd-pleaser.
But with so many options out there nowadays, making a decision regarding which offering to go with is harder than it has ever been. Finding a company that offers a corporate scavenger hunt program that suits your unique team’s needs will probably be more difficult than the scavenger hunt itself. Does that count as irony?
Having run successful team building programs for several decades, we at Summit have learned that there are several key elements of successful corporate scavenger hunts.
Of course, the design and delivery of the program is the probably the most important element. You want to work with a company who’s had decades of experience and has worked with some of the biggest companies in the world. But, at the risk of making this post sound like one long advertisement for our company, I’ll save that conversation for another day.
Then, there’s the location of your corporate scavenger hunt program. Among the most important outcomes of experiential corporate team building programs are its ability to energize groups when they are incorporated into larger offsite events (e.g., planning meetings, year-end retreats, conferences, etc.), and its ability to provide teams with shared common experiences that can serve as an opportunity to strengthen and build relationships. The location of your corporate scavenger hunt program has a huge role to play in delivering these two key outcomes.
Having said this, there are two key things to look out for when deciding where you want to host your corporate scavenger hunt. First, you want a program that can be delivered at the location where your offsite is being held. If you have your offsite meeting at The Kingbridge Centre, for example, it doesn’t make sense to travel to downtown Toronto just for the corporate scavenger hunt. Second, you want a corporate scavenger hunt that takes place at a unique and memorable location, and you want a program that takes full advantage of the scenery, attractions, and sights that the location has to offer.
From the hundreds of corporate scavenger hunt programs that we’ve delivered over the years, here are 7 of our favorite locations for these programs that fit both criteria:
As one of the most significant towns in the history of Canada, Niagara-on-the-Lake is home to the Shaw Festival, Fort George, and some of the most beautiful, colonial-style buildings in the country. Nicknamed The Loveliest Town in Canada, it’s not hard to imagine why it has been rated one of the best places to retire in Ontario. This town is full of history, beauty, and lovely folks, and a corporate scavenger hunt here would be absolutely unforgettable for any group.
Niagara-on-the-Lake is also home to several Vintage Hotels, such as the Prince of Wales, Queens Landing, and the Pillar and Post. The absolute beauty of these hotels is hard to describe – it’s really one of the things you have to see for yourself. Hosting your offsite here is highly recommended, if you ask us, and we’re not even saying that just because of our exclusive partnership with the Vintage Hotels.
2. Niagara Falls
I mean, there’s really not much else that needs to be said about one of the most iconic and famous travel destinations in the world. A corporate scavenger hunt at the Niagara Falls would undoubtedly help your team members check off a few bucket list items, at the very least. What fewer people know, however, is that the hotels at the Niagara Falls are fantastic to work with, and will make the entire process of planning your offsite incredibly straightforward. Trust us, we’ve worked closely with the Niagara Falls hotels for years.
3. Blue Mountain Resort
Most people know the Blue Mountain Resort as a busy winter sports destination, but it’s actually also one of the most popular locations for companies to host their offsites. With its beautiful main Village, unforgettable scenery, dedicated conference space, and numerous adventure opportunities, it’s quite an ideal place to host a corporate scavenger hunt. We’ve also had an exclusive partnership with the Blue Mountain Resort and the Westin Trillium House over the past several years, and we’ve designed a unique corporate scavenger hunt program that takes full advantage of all that Blue Mountain Resort has to offer.
4. The Kingbridge Conference Centre
Located in King City, Ontario, which is approximately 40 minutes north of Toronto, The Kingbridge Centre is one the most innovative and accommodating offsite venues in the province. The Kingbridge Centre is also home to some of the most beautiful natural outdoor space you can find in the Greater Toronto Area, and a corporate scavenger hunt program at the Kingbridge Conference Centre would undeniably take full advantage of the scenery and space. Might I also mention that they have a ropes course?
5. The Millcroft Inn and Spa
Located about an hour north of Toronto, The Millcroft Inn is another Vintage Hotel property (so you can trust that it will wow your team). It occupies a former textile mill, and dates back to the 19th century. Occupying 100 acres of woodland in the Caledon area, its beautiful and historic scenery will no doubt leave an impression on your team. This is another highly recommended site for a corporate scavenger hunt program
6. Wakefield Inn Hotel and Spa
This Quebec hotel is just a short drive from Ottawa, and is located in the heart of the stunning Gatineau Park. Not only is the Wakefield Inn a full service, blissful getaway for any team, it’s also home to some of the most stunning natural landscapes of the Gatineau Park. To say that a corporate scavenger hunt here would be unforgettable for your team would just be a complete understatement.
7. Downtown Toronto
A corporate scavenger hunt that takes your team around downtown Toronto and through all of its world-famous attractions…isn’t exactly a hard sell. With numerous conference centers and venues where you can host your offsite, a corporate scavenger hunt around Toronto would probably remain in your team’s memories for a very, very long time.
Honourable Mention: The Canada Aviation and Space Museum in Ottawa
Another surprisingly memorable and successful location where we’ve ran corporate scavenger hunt programs are the Canada Aviation and Space Museum in Ottawa. Though this location wouldn’t be too close to a specific offsite venue, running a corporate scavenger hunt program here would undoubtedly create an unforgettable experience for your team. I mean, that’s a pretty wild thing to be able to say you’ve done….
Anyway, regardless of where you decide to run your corporate scavenger hunt, our team at Summit would love to chat with you about how we can help you design a successful and impactful event. We’ve been everywhere, and we’ve seen it all, so we’d love to share our expertise with you.
